Unveiling the New Browning Citori 825 Sporting
Browning has done it again with the release of the Citori 825 Sporting, the latest evolution in its legendary over-under shotgun lineup. Taking the baton from the acclaimed Citori 725, the 825 refines and elevates the features that have made Browning a household name among shooting enthusiasts. Designed for precision, reliability, and versatility, the 825 Sporting sets a new standard as Browning’s flagship over-under firearm.
Built on a Legacy of Excellence
For all its advancements, the Citori 825 Sporting does have a few omissions. The most notable is the lack of a hard case; instead, the shotgun comes packaged in a simple cardboard box with protective plastic. While functional, some may feel this presentation falls short for a premium firearm. Additionally, traditionalists may lament the departure from classic engraving and styling, as the modernized receiver now features only minimal laser-etched branding.
Aesthetic Upgrades with a Modern Edge
While the 825 remains true to its roots, it introduces a sleek, contemporary look. The satin barrel finish adds an understated elegance, and the redesigned receiver trades heavy engraving for a more streamlined, angular aesthetic that Browning describes as “aggressive.” The wood-to-metal fit has been refined for a smoother transition, while the metal-to-metal edges sport sharper, cleaner lines.
One notable carryover from the late 725 era is the absence of barrel porting—a move likely tied to advancements in the 825’s internal design, including lengthened forcing cones. These enhancements boost velocity and precision, delivering tighter, more consistent shot patterns.
Pro Balance and Versatility
The Pro Balance System remains a standout feature, allowing shooters to customize the gun’s balance by adding weights to the stock. This adaptability ensures the shotgun feels perfectly tailored, whether in competition or in the field. Additionally, the 825 includes three trigger shoe options and an optional adjustable comb, further cementing its reputation as one of the most versatile shotguns on the market.
Firelite 2: Game-Changing Innovation
The 825 debuts the Firelite 2 trigger system, a revolutionary upgrade that supports combo barrel sets. Unlike its predecessor, which required sub-gauge triggers to be tuned specifically for recoil, the Firelite 2 allows a 12-gauge trigger to seamlessly operate with sub-gauge loads. This innovation opens the door for shooters to use tube inserts and switch between gauges with ease—perfect for those seeking a true multi-gauge experience.
What’s Missing?

Nice gun but the lack of a hard case had me thinking. But I pulled the trigger and now I love the gun. But still a little butt hurt about the cardboard box.
Thanks for your feedback, Russ! Great to hear you’re enjoying the 825—you’re not alone in wishing it came with a hard case. The manufacturer has stated that their decision helps keep the overall quality of the gun high while maintaining a competitive price point, though we know preferences vary.
That said, we just received a shipment of Citori Ultra XS Dark Pro models, which are exclusive to Orion Outdoors Company! These come with extended choke tubes and a hard case, all at an incredibly competitive price. If you or anyone you know is looking for an entry-level Citori with 825-like features and a hard case, this could be the perfect fit!
